SWEETS

I found a new cupcake place! It's called Sweets! Sweets is located in City Center behind Red Mango. This cupcake boutique had the feel of a kitchen in a downtown New York loft.
They have cupcake balls (seen on the far left and right) and Macaroons (seen in the middle).
They also sell mini cupcakes which I plan on buying on my next visit.
I bought Humming Bird, Red Velvet, Chocolate Coconut and Chocolate Chocolate. My dad ate the humming bird cupcake and he said it was good for a cupcake. This is a compliment coming from my father. My mom had the Chocolate Coconut and she said it was not every sweet. I had both the Red Velvet and the Chocolate Chocolate. I thought that the Chocolate cupcake was yummy. The cake was moist and there was a great frosting to cake ratio.
I took picture of the Red Velvet cupcake to show the sugar crystals. I did not care for the Red Velvet at all. The sugar crystals were over whelming and did not work well with the cake. I am almost 100% sure the frosting was not cream cheese. This was all a bit disappointing because Red Velvet is my favorite.

I think I will return to Sweets Cupcakes but I will skip their Red Velvet.

Ooh La La ;)

I love cupcakes. Yes I am on a diet but I still love cupcakes every now and then. I love to try the highest rated cupcake shops in and around Houston. I recently purchased a new car and decided to drive around and explore different areas. I stumbled upon Oh La La cupcakes in Katy, Tx. Ooh La La has been rated in the top 5 best cupcakes in the city on several websites.  The first thing I noticed about the boutique was the drive-thru (what cupcake place has a drive thru!).
Ok these cupcakes were huge! They also had a large selection of cupcakes, cheesecakes, slices of cake, and cookies. To say that I was overwhelmed was an understatement. I decided to stick with my favorite cupcake, red velvet.
Here is the box. The only negative thing I have to say about Ooh La La is that the box is way to small for the size of the cupcake.
This picture does not do the size of the cupcake justice. It took me all day to finish the cupcake and I had to eat it with a fork and knife. So I know the big question is... How did it taste?  It really took a lot of time for me to decide what I could compare it to and I still can't think of anything. The cupcake was huge in size but was also light and fluffy. The cupcake did not taste like any cupcake I have had before. It tasted more like a slice of cake, I'm not sure that makes since. I will compare the cupcake to sprinkles because I know most of you have probably tried their cupcakes. The Ooh La La cupcake was soft and fluffy and sprinkles cupcakes are a bit more stiff.

Overall I give this cupcake a 9 out of 10. I cannot give it a 10 because it isn't technically a cupcake if you eat it with a fork. Right?

Life needs SPRINKLES!

I like desert...No I LOVE desert! I love cake and cookies, but I love cupcakes most. Whenever a cupcake bakery opens here in Houston I rush to try it out. Being a cupcake lover I felt overwhelmed with joy when I found out Sprinkles was coming to the city. I waited and waited for over a year for the bakery to open and finally it has!

I visited Sprinkles on yesterday around 6:30pm so they were sold out of most of their flavors.

However I was able to get a Red Velvet and a Dark Chocolate cupcake.

Review: I want to preface this review by saying that I have had Red Velvet cupcakes at Crave, Celebrity Cupcakes, It's a Treat Bakery, and Sugar Babies. I enjoy Red Velvet but I have yet to find a Red Velvet cupcake that reminds me of my great-grandmothers cake. WELL I FOUND IT!! The Red Velvet was great! The cream cheese frosting was perfect and the cake was moist and tasted extremely homemade. The Dark Chocolate cupcake was also good. I usually order Dark Chocolate at Crave and I have always enjoyed it, however the Dark Chocolate at Sprinkles was perfect!

I had low expectations for Sprinkles simply, because it is a chain and it has been highly advertised in the media I loved the two cupcakes I tried and I will be returning to Sprinkles as often as possible. This is NOT good for my diet!
